Your bank can only offer you its own products — and it has no legal duty to put your interests first. A broker has both the panel and the obligation. Here's the difference in practice.
More than seven in ten Australian home loans are now written through brokers — and the reason is structural. Your bank can only sell you its own loans. A broker compares the market and, under Australia’s Best Interests Duty, is legally required to act in your best interests. Banks selling their own products carry no such duty.
One application, twenty-five lenders
At Tudor Finance we compare loans across a panel of more than 25 lenders — the big four plus challengers and specialists. That matters twice: once for price, and once for policy. If your situation is anything other than vanilla — self-employed, new job, small deposit, past credit hiccup — the right lender choice is the difference between approved and declined.
What does a broker cost?
In most cases, nothing. Brokers are paid a commission by the lender you settle with, and we disclose those commissions upfront. The rate you get through us is the same as — and often better than — walking into that lender’s branch, because we negotiate with the lender’s pricing desk on your behalf.
The work you never see
Pre-approval, valuations, chasing the lender’s credit team, meeting finance deadlines on your contract, coordinating with your conveyancer, and the follow-ups after settlement. When your finance clause expires in 14 days, having someone whose job is to push the bank matters.
Local knowledge is part of the service
Since 2007 we’ve written loans for homes across Nunawading, Blackburn, Vermont, Box Hill and beyond. We know what properties in these streets actually sell for and how lenders view them — context an interstate call centre simply doesn’t have. It’s also why around 90% of our new clients are referred by past ones.
